• Most Americans view their pets as family members; studies show that more than 70 percent of pet owners think of their pets as children.

• Cancer is the number one natural cause of death in geriatric cats and dogs, and it accounts for nearly 50 percent of deaths each year;accounting for almost half of the deaths of pets over 10 years of age.

• More than 10 million Americans are currently living with, through or beyond cancer. The percentage of animals living with cancer is of equal ratio.

• More than 1.4 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer this year. The percentage of animals living with cancer is of equal ratio.

• In 2006, it was expected that 565,650 Americans will die of cancer, more than 1,500 people a day. The amount of animals expected to die of cancer in 2009, is more than 3,000 animals a day.

• Of human adults’ diagnoses with cancer today, 64% will be living five years from now. Of animals’ diagnoses with cancer today, less than 25% will survive.

• The National Institutes of Health estimate overall costs for human cancer in 2008 at $219.2 billion. The overall estimate cost for cancer in animals is indeterminate as there are few funding sources available for treatment, research, prevention and education.
